The Honda Fleet at Windham Acres

The Honda Fleet

Last summer we started building a little dirt track out back behind the house.  Mark (Gonyou) and I, along with Joe, my brother Matt and Tim (Miller) spent a fair bit of time working on the layout and the track surface, which started out mostly as weeds and some trees.  We borrowed a quad to clear the track initially and then worked on it by hand (in hindsight, we should have rented a Cat), shoveling and moving dirt, building up banking and trying to make for a nice technical layout.

So far this spring there's been a bunch of new growth, so we've been re-carving out the track to some extent over the last couple weeks.  This past weekend we had quite a few XR100's out.  It was pretty funny.  The rules – stock, bone stock.  Mufflers, engine and everything in between have to stay stock.  The kid-sprung spring on the back is a bit soft, so that can be modified so it doesn't feel like you're riding on a pogo stick.

It's been a blast riding the XR's and good training for the big bikes as well.  We have our local dirt-riding ringer (Mark) and Oliver (Gooden), who took the American Supercamp school, so it's good riding with them and learning new techniques.  Mark had a borrowed TTR 125 last year that he rode, but that was sold over the winter, so he was left without a bike.  He surprised us all Sunday morning when he showed up with a XR100 of his own that he just picked up.  Devin and Aubrey (Stewart) who wanted to ride, picked up an XR100 as well a few days prior and brought it over.  Rather quickly, we've gotten a nice group who all have the same bike that we can run around and bang bars with.  Dad had a borrowed bike last year that he no longer has, so he's next on the list to pick up one.  :)

Do we have lap timers on the bike?  Of course.  The first Windham Acres Invitational is coming up soon, after all …
