The Witchkraft Files – WERA Round 4, Beaverun
By Doug Cornett:
I'm not sure how to describe our day at BeaveRun…the hard part is putting into words the hours (my contribution was minimal), thought, planning, sheer dedication and not to forget the monetary commitment to a goal that has created the arch leading up to yesterday. I think back on my offer to help Eddie and Joe with their racing effort and all that has transpired since then. We have had alot happen to us. Not much more than anyone else and less than some. The important thing is we keep looking ahead…kept a focus…didn't say, "that's enough, we're out" when things were tough. I'm happy for Eddie and Joe. I feel satisfied on my part for being with this team and I hope I have helped get us to this point..
That "point" was a fun day to say the least. 4 races – 4 wins! I've been so used to having discussions about which adjustments and changes to make…it felt a little strange not doing any of that. I kept track of the tire pressures and fuel level. Put on fresh tires once and watched the races. Strange indeed…but nice at the same time. I'm happy for Eddie and G. They are fun to hang with even though there was focus to our day.
Another racer that has my respect is Jeff Wrobel. He has a similar focus and dedication to his racing as Eddie does. Jeff has had his share of set backs lately but the great thing about him is that he doesn't let it deter his determination to figure it out and go faster. Jeff listens, considers things carefully and implements what he thinks will work. He is successful in this regard. Plus he is a good guy to have a laugh with. Jeff is a tough competitor and a gentleman at the same time. On and off the track.
Our friend Tom collected a trophy of sorts yesterday. He got an outstanding holeshot into Turn 1 in the Senior Superbike race…tipped the bike in and got hammered by someone who thought it would be OK to use Tom as a berm and jammed his bike underneath into the turn. Fortunately Tom stayed upright and continued to have a good race. The issue here is why is it necessary for one competitor to think it is fine to create a situation that would send a fellow racer crashing to the pavement over a piece of plastic which is awarded at the end of the day? Tom's trophy…a nice, very large black tire scuff from the impact on his fairing. Unwarranted, unnecessary and a cheap shot.
Over and out.
