A Voice of Encouragement

Motorless

With the front springs and numbers changed on the bike, but no motor in sight until Friday at best (but more likely Saturday), I was ready to concede Grattan and hoped to be ready for BeaveRun next weekend.  As an added bonus, one of the screws holding the plate to my collarbone had started to back out and was now visible externally.  Great.  The combination of these two things had left me in rather dull spirits over the past few days.

However that was until talking to Doug yesterday.  He gave a call to check in and see how things were going.  I told him about the status of the motor and how we'd likely be missing out on Grattan.  His response was pretty simple.  "Well why don't we pick up the motor on Saturday, put it in the bike, and race on Sunday."  So simple and yet so logical.  In what would be considered uncharacterisitic for most, Doug actually seemed eager to be at the track Saturday with a bike in pieces, installing the motor late into the night and then racing on Sunday.  Not the Witchkraft way by any means, but given the circumstances and the how the season has gone thus far, I thought, why not?

After the phone conversation with Doug and talking to my dad again, who echoed the same sentiments, I was suddenly in good spirits and optimistic about the weekend.  What Doug said made sense.  We're going to be at the track already with my dad racing.  And this would be a good opportunity to shake down the bike on Sunday just to make sure everything is ready before BeaveRun.

So the plan is to run on Sunday.  We won't have our typical Friday and Saturday to practice, but maybe that's a good thing.  Just a couple morning practice sessions to get up to speed, make sure everything's working, and then go out and race.  Have some fun and enjoy the weekend a little.  Yeah I like that idea.  If there's one thing I learned from the AMA experience is that everyone going out is on race pace in the first session on the first day.  It's time for me to do that.

Thanks Doug.
