Monday Morning Grind
While not directly tied to the race bike, I did get a birthday/early Christmas present from Gina that will aim to get me in shape over the winter months and ready for riding the big bike.
If there's one weakness I've had when racing, it's been that by the time Sunday came around (after a full day of riding both Friday and Saturday), my legs would be sore and I'd be popping Motrin's before the race started. As the season wore on, this would generally become less of an issue, but it was still there. So one of my goals over the winter is to improve in this area and eliminate being fatigued on what's obviously the most important day of the weekend.
In talking with Darren Womack and Chris Knight; a couple guys who have raced bikes and are both pretty competitive cyclists, they've given me with some ideas and direction on how I want to go about putting a cycling program together. It's no surprise many of the top pro riders are avid cyclists, so I figured I might as well give it a shot myself.
Being that my mountain bike is about 12 years old and a pile of nuts and bolts, I borrowed my brother's mountain bike, mounted a new street tire on the back wheel and started riding this past weekend. It's kicking my ass so far, but I think that's a good thing. Couple that with riding my CRF-50 once a week (which is a great training tool as well), and I think I'm on the right track.
