Letter to Grattan

Hey Sam,

I was just reading this article on Roadracing World, where they talk about Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta since they've been repaved:

The article made me think of Grattan.  I've heard talks of a possible repave of the track this fall/winter, and while that sounds great – do you guys have any thoughts on how run-off will be affected?  Surely the track will become faster with new pavement.  My dad and I have always thought the track surface was fine (people just normally get spooked by the different colored patches, strips, etc.), but that safe run-off was more important.  Like the guardrail through the sweeper, and when running counter-clockwise; the guardrail at the bus stop and coming out of T1 onto the straight.  It can be pretty hairy through there and I think that is part of the reason a lot of WERA guys haven't shown up when they run CCW.  Someone earlier this year hit the guardrail in T1, but fortunately they were okay.

Anyways, that's my two cents.  I love Grattan.  And I think it's one of the safer tracks in the area.  New pavement is always nice, but I personally think added run-off and new bathrooms/showers that smell all fruity would be even cooler.

Thanks and talk to you later,

Eddie Kraft
